The Voyageur's Lodge and Cookhouse, Lake Superior

After an afternoon of gorbie tourist shopping at the Agawa Trading Post where I purchased for my guy who has everything a pair of genuinely Canadian made Pilsener glasses featuring a couple of frosted moose ...(on Lake Superior, moose do get frosted, especially on wing night Thursdays).... my family and I decided to stop for dinner at the Voyageur's Lodge and Cookhouse at Batchawana Bay... google it... http://www.voyageurslodge.com/

Great wings, even better service...and a cold Keith's to boot! We left satisfied and happy to trail our toes in the beachy shore across the road from the restaurant.

On route home, about an hour and a half's drive later, I realized that I had left my purse, ergo, all my lifelines... phone, my wallet complete with cards, cash and Subway stamps, ibuprophen, and lipchaps in all shades of naturally me ranging from barely there rose to white vaseline... in the restaurant on the floor behind my chair.

Yes, stupid is the only adjective here as I am not yet 50 and presumably in charge of my faculties, such as they are. And feeling very stupid, I borrowed my mother's cell phone and called the folks at the Voyageur. I did what? Oh dear, did I know where I was sitting? What did I say my name was?

After a brief (less than 60 seconds) search that lasted an eternity (a whole minute) on my end of the phone , Gail (her real name) returned to say my purse was there and when could I come and get it? I said I would come the next morning to retrieve it and she locked it away.

I rose at six to make ready for the trip and arrived there at about 8:30. After discussing the merits of owning a VW diesel with a stranger outside the restaurant (I always meet the nicest people!) and taking in a huge whiff of Lake Superior air....yes, it does smell different, putting me in mind of countless trips along the TransCanada to Winnipeg when I was a kid, another story...a pleasant young gal greeted me and retrieved my stash for me. Purse all there, wallet all there, lipchaps all waiting to be used.

Furthermore, I ordered a homemade cinnamon bun, cut in half and grilled.... to which she went to work on immediately, without requiring any explanation or even offering some puritanical dietetic admonishment. It arrived all super crispy on one side, sweet and soft on the other, and hot all the way through. Oh My God. Never had a better one...ever.

And I have never felt more looked after. Thank you Voyageur... I will be back for more beer and wings, and I hope anyone who reads this makes the trip...it was worth it!
